Buenos Aires was re-imagined post-1880, when the old Colonial style was wiped out and replaced by European styles - largely Italian and French - with splashes of British, Japanese, Indian and many other influences blended in.
Madonna was (not) here |
This building was modelled on Dante`s Inferno |
Locals (Portenos) take great pride in their city but, while it is amazing to look at and beautifully created, the whole place is really a tribute to European design.
San Telmo is an authentic shabby chic area, close to the dodgy Boca neighbourhood, full of craft markets, antique arcades, boutiques and cafes.
The buildings throughout the city speak for themselves - like Havana, every inch of the place is a photo opportunity.
Oh, and we visited the Pope`s old gaffe, too...
