Uruguay suddenly got very green and countryfied as we took the bus up the east coast to Punto Del Diablo (Devil's Point).
A nightmare start as we arrived at dusk to find a seemingly stoned Ian Dury lookalike in reception who hadn't registered our reservation.
We sorted it out and it was fine, but it wasn't that we didn't trust him with our passports, only that he or his mate (a smaller version of The Dude) might never remember the combination for the safe he put them in.
Anyway, back in our lovely room, a basic cabana with ensuite, we found the tablet I'd just bought seven hours and a few hundred miles ago didn't work.
We made a dark, windswept and gloomy trek down to the town centre to drown our sorrows at having spent over a hundred quid on an A4 paperweight and happened upon Cero Stress*, a nice beach restaurant run by Bernardo and his dog Ulysses.
Regaling us with tales of his days in the London catering trade and serving up "the best fish risotto and red wine in Uruguay" we did indeed relax.
When we got back to the ranch, the tablet started first time (flat battery...) and we went to bed happy and extremely relieved.
* Zero Stress!!
