Sweet and Gentle and Sensitive, Man

(A wordy post this one, but loads of pictures next time...)

From La Paz' lunacy to the lacuna of Sucre for some downtime with lovely Dubliner Darragh, owner of the excellent Celtic Cross hostel, and his majordomo, loose footed Aussie rasta Dave. They are two great blokes who offer us a gentle oasis between more strenuous activities.

We spend quality time with some English and Irish folks, visit a good Dutch bar, have a hostel BBQ night and Kim gets some late night dance fever out of her system.

Much rum is drunk, my cash card is swallowed at a local ATM (we get it straight back, thankfully - try doing that in England!) and I have a worrying day on and off the toilet, before we hightail it on the night bus to Uyuni for the start of our high altitude trip to the Salt Flats, taking with us young Mike and Abbie (our latest surrogate kids).

... more on Uyuni next time, but we finish our three day tour by crossing over into Chile via the high and remote Atacama Desert border.

We are coming full circle with our South American trip soon, and pull up in San Pedro De Atacama, a dusty, fly-blown, though pretty and touristy little town, where we hit the red wine, Kim goes sandboarding and spends a couple of nights 'round the campfire with more nice Brits, a great German couple and a Canadian lady.

Friday morning comes 'round and we leave the flies to take over our room while we catch the bus to Salta in Argentina, where we are now lying in our hostel.

Civilisation is on the horizon, and not a day too soon. I had a shave yesterday and might even buy a new pair of jeans tomorrow.

  2. Another step taken on your journey, wish i was with you both ,especially the impromptu benders ,sounds great.Pleased to hear Kim got the disco monkey off her back. That pic of Kim on train track great ,talk about desolate!.Are you just trimming the beard or is it the full monty haha.Good folk you are travelling along side by the sounds ,so are they mind travelling with good folk!!.See Michael has made contact with you both,he is settling in well in phillipines. It is a small world alright with internet ,facebook .Amazing really a way of communicating over any distance and for nowt anall!.Enjoy Argentina ,well a different part of it anyhow.Toon off to the usual shambolic start ,the club is a XXXXXXXing mess from top to bottom .Cant see anybody coming in who isnt a yes man .Until they get rid of Ashley it will be business as usual. The new blood they have bought look lightweight for prem .The midfield has no creativity, the forwards are powderpuff the defence pathetic .I fear for them bit early for R word but if they continue in the way they are its a knocking bet.Bay won 5-3 ,in a bit of good form won last 3.All good here just back from wales with Paula we had a great week weather wise indian summer i think they call it.Enjoy times flying just seem like yesterday yous went.Love from all here love to Kim also.Have fun.XXX

  3. Aye 3 days after the drubbing and his position looks pretty solid. Fat Ash made a rod for his back with that 8 year contract eh, maybe why he's not given Sreve Bruce the job yet haha.

Glad you had a good time in the 'van - always a good holiday that.

And yes, Michael and I will be having 'festival wars' soon. We saw a good pilgrimage procession yesterday in Salta. Lots of bells and flag waving.

    All the best! KX
