After ten days in Paraty we took a bus and ferry to Ilha Grande, a large, touristy but beautiful island halfway up the coast to Rio.
We disembarked in torrential rain, so went straight to the bar for caipirinhas and got hammered, met Lorna and Niall, a lovely Rio-based Irish expat polymer scientist couple, then checked into the pousada (hotel) with rather damp rucksacks.
We found it was only three minutes' walk away from the bar - the map was surprisingly smaller scale than we thought!
The sun was out by next morning and we spent the next two days walking through the jungle, stopping off at lots of beautiful beaches.
There were also lots of dogs, a nice church (St Sebastian, for those in the know ;) and other interesting stuff...
